BTCT also work closely with other organisations, who offer progression opportunities for our residents.  BTCT also works closely with Gloucester Works in order to allow residents to access the employment opportunities that will become available during the regeneration of Gloucester Quayside.  The Lighthouse Children’s Centre also work with us and we organise courses to run on their site.

Education Team

TCT is involved in first steps education and progression into Further Education or Employment, the two keys words are Engage and Progress.

The three top priorities are, Literacy, Numeracy and I.C.T.

BTCT currently offers a number of courses. These include;

I.C.T. classes which are application based, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Desk-Top Publishing, Presentation Software, Internet and E-mail.

BTCT also works in partnership with Denmark Road Language School to offer Arabic classes for Women.  BTCT runs it’s own Arabic for Men.

Literacy and Numeracy classes are available as are Foundation English Classes for those who do not have English as a first language.  There is progression to Accredited classes.

Information and Advice is offered to all students, this is offered by both Adult Education and Gloucester Works.

An additional strategy of BTCT is Community Cohesion.  We offer Diversity Training to organisations locally and for local residents we offer a course called Introduction to Islam in order to raise awareness.

One other stream that is important, commenced when we were joined by a large number of Eastern Europeans, in particular Polish.  A course was developed called Welcome To Gloucestershire that informed the new arrivals how to engage with services in the UK, Police, Health, Education services, etc.  Following this success, we have followed up with courses that are called Being British but are delivered to different sections of our community in order to overcome the language problems.  We have delivered, Bangladeshi and British (for Women), Cantonese and British, Mandarin and British.  We also have plans for Caribbean and British and Bangladeshi and British (for Men) as well as a repeat of Welcome to Gloucestershire for Eastern Europeans.
